On December 9, 2010, a jury in Los Angeles, California unanimously found in favor of media personality Dr. Lillian Glass in her copyright infringement trial against Marsha Petrie Sue, an author and professional speaker from Arizona.

In the trial, Dr. Glass had alleged that Petrie Sue’s 2007 book “Toxic People” had wrongfully copied from two lists in Dr. Glass’ 1992 book “He Says, She Says.”  The jury of eight agreed.

Dr. Glass had also written a book in 1995 called “Toxic People.”  She stumbled across Petrie Sue’s book of the same title on Amazon.com and learned that it contained material from “He Says, She Says.”

The author of fourteen books, Dr. Glass said: “I’m so happy, so proud to live in this country where we can send a message about improper copying.  My books are my life’s work.  They are full of  valuable and helpful information. If a person wants to use something, contact me.  But don’t copy my work without giving me credit and hope I won’t find out, because I will stand up to anyone who does this.”

“I not only fought this legal battle for  myself,” added Dr. Glass,” I fought it on behalf of  everyone who creates something.”

Dr. Glass was represented by Karish & Bjorgum, PC in Los Angeles.

Late last month, Dr. Lillian Glass released a sequel to her best- selling book “Toxic People” about relationships called “Toxic Men- 10 Ways to Identify, Deal With and Heal From Men Who Make Your Life Miserable” from Adams Media (2010). Dr. Glass is also a regular contributor to the Nancy Grace Show and has a monthly column in Cosmopolitan Magazine.  Her commentary is regularly seen through the news media. www.drlillianglass.com

  1. Congratulations, Dr. Glass!!! I know what an emotional toll that this took on you. I am absolutely thrilled for you and your victory. Patience and perseverance paid off and justice was served.
    Congratulations, again.

  2. Wonderful news for you, Dr. Lillian! I’m so sorry that you had to endure all of that stress but so very glad that you pursued her legally and triumphed.

  3. Congratulations, Dr. Glass…I didn’t know this was going on! Where have I been???

I wonder what it was this Petrie-Sue person did. IF she used one of your articles w/o your permission, was it done with malice?
You have great articles one might want to share and I didn’t realize it infringed on copyrights…I myself have given your articles to someone…Did I break the law??
I’m an avid reader to your articles Dr. Glass and wasn’t aware that I shouldn’t share your articles..and do apologize for doing so….From now on I will just post a link, I’d never want to break the law with someone as special as you are. I appreciate you, I love reading your insights and take away so much. I’ve learned how to read people as well. You are a great educator just in case you hadn’t noticed..I remain an avid fan…JMHO

    1. Marsha Petrie wrote a book called Toxic People in 2007, the same name of the book Toxic People which I worte in 1995. When I read her Toxic People book I discovered there was identical word for word copying of my work with no attribution.

  4. Congratulations, Dr. Glass!

LindaRose, this woman copied paragraphs/chapters etc. word for word out of Dr. Glass’ book and put them into her own book. She STOLE Dr. Glass’ words and ideas and claimed that she wrote them herself. That’s a totally different situation than sharing Dr. Glass’ articles with people. As long as you credit Dr. Glass as the author of the work, it’s fine to share.
